Field activity : Leech hunting.

Animal Ecology Lab member often to go to field activity. This time we went to Takasaka field on Saturday (19 Nov) to collect soil samples and mud snails. It was not just collect the soil but our aim is Leech. Most of members, including me, were in the first experience in collecting leech. The weather was not so nice, but work must goes on.

There were eight member in total participated field activity. Everybody was doing work quickly yet efficient since the temperature was about below 10°C and rainy. Collected soils and snails were carried out in laboratory. Wait, the work had not finished yet. We have to washed in order to softened the soil, than filtered by mesh. The leech whis found in mesh were separated and keep in different place.

We started at 11 and finished at 17 (1.5 hour break time). Five and a half hour, eight person, five soil samples.

And surprisingly only 36 leeches we had got. Probably because of the cold temperature they likely to refuge.
