Yutagawa Village (湯田川村)

Last week I came to Yutagawa area twice time. First time for study and second time for enjoying the time. First visit, I came with Sagae san for searching some snails. Then, we ask permission to some farmer then he recognized me as International student and everything was goin

g well. Then, we saw some paddy plant broke by the wind. Suddenly, the farmer came to us and said “Indonesia?” and I said “Yes!” and he told me he visited Indonesia around 10-15 years ago. He said he came to Bali, Jakarta and Garut. I am still surprise and wondering some Japanese and he is a farmer come to Garut. Well our lab knows Garut because of Kampung Naga. He said he study some culture of farming in Garut and he said he learnt how Indonesia people maintain and caught mud snail. He said he do the same thing with Indonesia. He said also, this year the number of mud snail increase in Yutagawa and it is because they already resistance with some chemical (herbicide and pesticide), so I started to think “This is good or bad things?”. What do you think?

He also told us Yutagawa area is very high diversity, we can still see turtle in the river, some fish, snails and various types of bird. I think the people in Yutagawa is very good to maintain their ecosystem very well. It is reminding me with my uncle which is professor in ecology at UNPAD, now he studied about diversity of insect, birds, people in village ecology in Citarum watershed, West Java. I think this area is very related with my uncle studies, sometime I will tell this story to him as sometime I consult everything to him. My second time come to Yutagawa was using bicycle to observe by my self about some animal near the park. It is very exciting!! I want to study more more and more.

先週、湯田川エリアに2回来ました。初めは研究をし、2回目は時間を楽しみました。初めての訪問で、タニシ リを探すために寒河江さんと一緒に来ました。それから、ある農民に許可を求めたところ、彼は私を留学生として認め、すべてが順調に進んでいました。すると、風で水田の作物が倒れてしまいました。突然、農夫が私たちのところに来 て、「インドネシア？」と言いました。そして私は「はい」と言いました。彼は10〜15年前にインドネシアを訪れたと私に言った。彼はバリ、ジャカルタ、ガルトに来たと言った。私はまだ驚き、日本人がいるのだろうかと思っています。彼は農民で、ガルトに来ています。私たちの研究室は、カンポンナガのおかげでガルトを知っています。彼はガルトで農業の文化を研究し、インドネシアの人々がどのようにタニシを維持し、捕まえたかを学んだと述べた。彼はインドネシアでも同じことをしていると言った。また、今年は湯田川でタニシの数が増えており、すでに何らかの化学物質（除草剤や殺虫剤）に耐性があるためだとのことで、「いいのか悪いのか」と思い始めました。どう思いますか？ また、湯田川地域は多様性が非常に高く、川にはまだカメ、魚、カタツムリ、さまざまな種類の鳥が見られると彼は語った。湯田川の人々は、生態系をうまく維持するのにとても良いと思います。 UNPADの生態学の教授である私の叔父を思い出させてくれます。彼は今、西ジャワのシタルム川流域の村の生態学の人々、昆虫、鳥の多様性に ついて研究しました。この地域は私の叔父の研究と非常に関連していると思います。いつか私は彼にすべてを相 談するときにこの話を彼に話します。二度目に湯田川に来たのは、自転車を使って公園の近くの動物を自分で観察するためでした。とてもエキサイティングです！どんどん勉強したいです。
