The guests from Canada and Iwate visit our laboratory.

以前の記事にもあったように、4月28日はナイールさんとカレンさん夫妻による講演がありました。講演の前に、ご夫妻と上村先生が研究室を訪ねてくださいました。

As mentioned in previous article, on 28th April, a lecture by Mr. Nair and Mrs. Karen was held. Before the lecture, the couple and Prof. Uemura visited our laboratory.

研究室では、メンバー全員が英語で自己紹介をした後、ナイールさんを中心に様々なお話しをしてくださいました。

In our laboratory, first we introduced ourselves, next Mr. Nair mainly talked about various topics.

かつてはIBMに携わっていた事や、熱帯の果物をカナダのサスカチュワンで栽培できるようにする研究などについてお話しをしてくださり、農業からITまで、幅広い分野に挑戦してきた方だということが分かりました。

He talked about that he had used to engage in IBM and research on growing tropical fruit trees in the state of Saskatchewan. I found Mr. Nair and Mrs. Karen have challenged many things, in the field of agriculture, IT and so on.

私は講義のため講演を聞きに行くことはできませんでしたが、この時間を通してナイールさんとカレンさんについて知ることができました。

I wasn’t able to attend the lecture because I had another lecture, but I found out about them generally in this opportunity.

しかし、正直な所、おっしゃっていた内容をほとんど聞き取ることができませんでした。 But to be honest, I hardly catch the words spoken.

ネイティブの方の発音を聞き取ることの難しさを痛感したのが、この日の私の率直な感想です。

I felt that it was difficult to listen to native English. This is my frank impression in that day.

それから、岩手からのお土産を頂きました。ありがとうございます。

Then... I received a souvenir from Iwate. We really appreciate it.
