わんぱく農業 2018

悪い天気が続くなか、毎年恒例のわんぱく農業に参加してきました。今回は私、白井さん、星君、とニケンの4人で行ってきました。わんぱく農業とは3～6年生の小学生たちが山形大学の先生や学生と一緒に米を作るククラブのことです。先週は『稲の生育調査』、『田んぼの生きもの探し』、『土を調べる、土であそぶ』について勉強し、私たちは『田んぼの生き物探し』を担当しました。

In the middle of bad weather that still continues, we joined Wanpaku Nogyou that held annually. This time was me, Shirai san, Hoshi kun, and Niken, 4 people joined this activity. Wanpaku Nogyou is a club for elementary school 3 – 6 grade students to make rice with teacher and students from Yamagata University. Last Sunday was about “Survey of Growth of The Paddy”, “Survey of Organisms in Paddy Field”, and “Learning about Soil, Play with Soil”, and we were the charge of “Survey of Organisms in Paddy Field”.

今回の流れはサンプルとして田んぼの土をとり、それをトレイに分けます。子供たちが来たら軽く自己紹介をして稲にいる生き物を観察するために田んぼを一周します。最初のところに戻って土の中にある生き物を観察し、まとめに入る、という予定でした。10：10から私たちの番なので、準備するために1時間前に高坂へ行きました。

The plan this time was first, take the soil as a sample the divide it onto tray. If the children come, we introduce our self and go around the field to observe the organism above the soil. After that, come back to the first place and do observation of organisms inside the soil. Hoshi kun will give the conclusion and finish our session. The session starts from 10:10, so we went one hour earlier to make preparation.

まず、サンプルの土を採るためにわんぱく農業の田んぼに向かいました。そこで私たちは気づきました。田んぼに水がなかったのです！中干しでした！

これではサンプルとれないじゃんと私は思いました。

First, to take the samples we went to Wanpaku Nogyou paddy field. When we saw the field we noticed something important. There was no water! The field was dried!

“We cannot take the samples if it is like this!”, I thought.

急いで研究室の田んぼに行きました。マルタニシを使っているので水がまだありました。サンプルをとれてよかったです。

Then we quickly went to the laboratory`s paddy field. Because in our field we use mud snail, the water still remains. I was glad that we can take the samples.

とれた土を少しずつトレイに分けて、土の中の生き物を調査しました。そこでなんと、また問題が発生しました。生き物があまりいなかったのです！少なすぎました！

これでは子供たちが自分で観察できないなと私は思いました。前に実験でとったサンプルにはたくさんいたのですが。困りますね。

We divided the samples on to the tray, and start to look for the organisms. And what! Problems arose again! There was just a few of organisms! It was too few!

“The children cannot observe by them self with this amount”, I thought. Although we could find many organisms in experiment before. We were in trouble.

それでも私たちは頑張って生き物を探しました。子供たちが自分で探さなくても見えるように、見つかった生き物を集めました。しかしその途中で子供たちが来てしまいました。星君と白井さんが子供たちの方に行って私とニケンは生き物探し作業を続けました。

We decided to continue looking for the organisms. We collected the organism that we found so the children could see it easily. When we were still looking, children were coming. Hoshi kun and Shirai san went with the children, me and Niken continued the work.

見つかったのはオタマジャクシ、ドジョウ、マルタニシ、カエル、ヤゴ、カイエビ、ユスリカの幼虫、ヒルでした。イトミミズはいませんでした。

We found tadpoles, loaches, mud snails, frogs, dragonfly larva, clam shrimp, chironomidae, and leech. We could not find tubifex at that time.

限られた生き物で星君が説明している間にガムシの成虫と幼虫を捕まえた子がいて助かりました。ありがとう。

With few amounts of organism, Hoshi kun explained the roles of it. In the middle of explanation there was a kid who catches a larva and adult of hydrophilidae. It really helped us. Thank you, little kid.

私たちはマルタニシを中心に研究しているので、子供たちに人気があってほしいと思っていました。残念ながら、まったく人気がありませんでした。ヤゴやカエルやカイエビが人気でした。

Our laboratory is doing a research about mud snails commonly so we hoped that mud snails become famous among the kids. Unfortunately, that did not come true. They liked dragonfly larva, frogs, and clam shrimp more than mud snails.

このイベントに参加してよかったと思います。大事なことが分かるようになったからです。それは、準備することの重要性です。みんなそれぞれ忙しかったのであまり話す時間がなくて、口ゲンカになったこともありました。でも、子供たちが興味をもって、生き物を見たり質問したり楽しかったって言ってくれたので嬉しかったです。月曜日にはもとの生活にもどります！

I am glad I could join this activity because I can learn one important thing. That is preparation. Everyone was very busy and we did not have time to discuss about it. We also ever had fight. But, when the kids interestingly saw the organisms, asked many questions, and said “today was fun!”, made us very happy. Next day, we could go back to our daily life!
