先月嶺田さんと那須先生が鶴岡に来てくださった際、
河北町の子供たちと一緒に生き物調査をしませんか？と誘ってくれました。
それで佐藤先生と志村さんと私の３人で河北町へ一泊２日行ってきました。
Last month when Mineta san and Nasu sensei came to Tsuruoka, they invited us to join a research activity about living organism in Kahoku city with local children. So, three people of laboratorymembers, Sato sensei, Shimura san, and me went there for 2 days and 1 night.
農家民宿「畑宿」に着いて、宿の管理人である今田さんが出迎えてくれました。
そして、汗を流すために近くの温泉に行って、宿に戻ってきたらおいしそうなごはんがテーブルに並んでいました。
しばらくしたら奥山会長が来てくださって、その日の酒席が始まりました。
We arrived at traditional farm inn "Hatayado", we were welcomed by Konta san, the manager of the inn. After that, we went to nearby hot spring and when we came back to the inn delicious food was lined up on the table. After a while Okuyama Kaicho was coming and we started the meeting on that night.
嶺田さんは農研機構の研究者、雑草研究のプロです。
奥山会長は河北町の田んぼの生き物調査プログラムを立ち上げたかたで偉大な方です。
Mineta san is a researcher in NARO (National Agriculture and Food Research Organization), professional on weeds research. Okuyama kaicho is founding of research on paddy fields living organisms in Kahoku city who is very great person.
奥山会長は大きな夢を持っています。ここではたくさんの人が農家として働いています。
農村を続けるためには後継者が必要なので、今から子供たち農業に興味を持ってほしいという気持ちで、
嶺田さんの助けを借りてそのプログラムを立ち上げました。
そのために、地元の大学の先生がいてくれたら助かるから、また学生がいたほうが子供たちも地域の方々も
喜ぶんじゃないかとの理由で、私たちに声をかけてくださいました。
He have a big dream. In this city, many people are working as farmer. He thought that, to continue to be a farmer or farm village, successor is needed. That is why he started the research program with the help of Mineta san. For that program to be success he also asked of help of local university's teacher. Moreover, if the young students come the kids and other peoples will be glad. This is the reason why Okuyama kaicho and others asked us to come.
そのプログラムの大きな目玉として、奥山会長たちは「めだかの学校」を作り上げました。
子供たちがめだかの生息地、その生活や仲間を直接観察できるように作ったそうです。
Okuyama kaicho made a "School of Medaka" for the main activity in the program.
He made it so the kids can observe the medaka with their own eyes in their habitat.
翌日には、めだかの学校を実際に見せてもらいました。
本校舎と呼ばれる田んぼは無肥料無農薬で栽培していて、その隣には小さな池がありました。
東校舎と呼ばれる田んぼでは中干の期間だったので、端のほうに水が溜まっていました。
どちらも水がきれいで環境もよく、めだかや他の生き物が元気に生きていました。
The day after, we went to the School of Medaka. Field that called "the main building" is a no-fertilizer-no-insecticide-paddy field and there was a small pond next to it. The field that called "the east building" is a dry paddy field with puddle in the edge. The water in those field was very clean and the environement was very good so the medaka and other organisms can live happily.
私たちが来たのは子供たちの自由研究の相談日で、その日は二人の小学生が来てくれました。
マルタニシやめだかの勉強をしたり、小さな顕微鏡で観察したり、楽しそうでした。
那須先生が全員対応してくれたので私たちの出番はなかったようです。
その代わり奥山会長たちの熱いレクチャーを聞けました。
次回は稲刈りのときに来てほしいと言ってくださったので私たちも期待に応えるために、頑張らないとね。
We came to Kahoku city to help summer holiday homework, free experiment and two of elementary school students came. They learnt about medaka and mudsnail. They also used small microscope to observe small organisms. They looked enjoying it. Nasu sensei helped all of the students so we did not have a turn to help them. But we could get a hot lecture from Okuyama kaicho and Mineta san.
Next acctivity will be in harvest season. We have to work hard so we can help their dreams come true.
おまけ、奥山会長たちが私たちを紅花資料館に連れていってくれてありがとうございました。
