梅雨を間近に控えた今日この頃、真夏日かというほどの暑さの中、大学の試験圃場では3年生が共同で、夏に控えた研究発表のための研究準備をしています。私たちが行う研究は、「雑草管理によるアザミウマおよびその天敵への影響について」。雑草の刈り払いの方法をいくつか試しその中でどれが一番アザミウマを防除できるか、というものです。アザミウマというのは様々な作物に取り付いてその作物の汁を吸い、その作物の品質を悪くしてしまう害虫です。今回、この研究を行うことになった経緯は、佐藤先生にアザミウマの被害に悩むネギ農家（佐藤さん）を紹介いただき、そのアザミウマの生態を解明しようと話が進んだ次第です。
The rainy season is coming, in the hot day like as tropical day, B3 students together prepare research in college’s study field for the research presentation in summer. The study is “The effect for thrips and that enemy by weed management”. This is the research to find which treatment is most effective to protect thrips in several way of weeding. Thrip is pest fasten on some crops and suck that to lower the quality. At this occasion, the background why we decided to do this study is Prof. Sato introduced us the farmer (Mr. Sato) who suffer from damage by thrips, and we were interested in ecology of thrips.
この調査を行うにあたって、圃場できちんとしたデータを取るのは当然として、佐藤さんのネギハウスでの調査を行う許可をいただき実際の農場でのデータは圃場とどう違うのかを検証することになりました。先週のうちにハウスの周辺での刈り払いの処理をすませ、月曜は虫を集めるためのトラップを設置しました。トラップを設置してものの十数分で虫が捕まっていました。言わずと知れた害虫のアブラムシ、分解者のハエ、そしてアザミウマの天敵であるヒメハナカメムシの幼生も確認でき、来週の回収に今からワクワクが止まりません。
To do this research, this is of course to obtain accurate date in study field, but also we decided to verify the difference between real farm and study field to have got permission from Mr. Sato to do research in his farm and greenhouse. We have finished to weed around greenhouse and put traps to catch insects in Monday. Just ten and several minutes later, insects were caught. There were aphids, as everyone knows, which is pest, a fly of the decomposer and orius, which is the enemy for thrips, so I am full of hope for collection in next week.
快晴と快風で絶好の作業日和。思わず虫もトラップに飛び込みます。
The best day for working in blue sky and comfortable wind. Insects are jumping in trap without even thinking.
そして火曜日は圃場での除草処理。ハウスの調査するエリアの２倍ほどの広さで、各処理区を分ける作業、除草と除草した植物残渣を計量する作業など、やることはたくさんです。刺すような日差しが私たちの肌をきつく焼きます。5aもの生い茂る雑草を一息に薙ぎ倒す光景は実に爽快でした。刈り払った後には辺り一面から緑の匂い、この匂いが害虫の天敵を呼び寄せます。
Tuesday was the day weeding in study field. It is twice as big as researching area in greenhouse and there was a lot of task to treat each section or weed and weigh residue by weeding. Stabbing sun shying was burning our skin hardly. It was exhilarating to sweep away weed in a breath growing thickly in large as 5a field. After sweeping, green fragrance was rising. The enemy of pest is gathering by this smell.
さて、木曜日には圃場でもトラップが設置され、来週には両方の処理場でトラップの回収を行います。こんなにも立派に育ってるんです、きっと刈り取らなかった区では誇張もなく何千何万もの虫がトラップにこびりついていることでしょう。それを思い高揚する私はもうこの世界に毒されているのでしょうか？
Now, traps were put in study field on Thursday, and it will correct in both of fields in next week. It grew up so nicely, so there will thousand of insect stuck on trap expect for exaggeration in no treated section. Am I crazy in this world to be exalting by thinking about that?
