Weeding Day

In this month, the rain season comes very often. It was difficult to have a fixed schedule of fieldwork. We need to match to weather condition. Sometimes we need to postpone our activity. But it was ok because we can manage and use our time to studying. On 7th and 11 June 2019, we all lab member and Sato sensei have a weeding activity in Takasaka paddy field. On both days, the 3rd-grade student cannot participate due to their study activity. So in that time only me, Azka san, Shimura san, and Shirai san went theirs. It was not a problem, because in the previous fieldwork only 3rd grade and Sato sensei can participate in a field activity.

　今月は梅雨でよく雨が降りますね。外での作業のスケジュール調整が難しかったです。私たちは天気に合わせなければなりません。だから時々作業を延期せざるを得ません。しかしそれはそれで自分の時間を研究のために使うことができるのでOKです。今月7,11日は研究室のメンバーと佐藤先生で高坂農場の水田の除草作業がありました。3年生は彼らの研究のため、参加できませんでした。だからその時は私とAzkaさん、志村さん、白井さんだけでした。でもそれは問題ありません。なぜならその前の作業は3年生と佐藤先生だけで行ったのだから。

This was the situation of our paddy field↓これは私たちの水田の様子です。

On 7th June in the first time when we arrived, we divide our work (counted the mud snail and weeding). I and Azka in the first time counted the number of mud snail that will introduce and distribute to our field. After we finished our work, we help others to do weeding activity. In that time we do the weeding between planting line using tools made by aluminium. we need to do weeding back and forth in one step. It was a first time I do this work. It was so interesting to me. Although I study in agriculture, I never do field work in a paddy field like this. After weeding activity, we distribute the mud snails and back to university.

6月7日私たちが到着したらはじめにタニシを数えるのと除草の仕事が割り振られた。私とAzkaさんははじめ、タニシの導入数、分配数のカウントを行いました。この作業が終わった後、除草作業に加担しました。この時、私たちは移植された列の間を、アルミニウムでできた道具で除草しました。除草はこの道具をワンステップで前後に動かす必要があります。これは初めての経験でした。そしてとても楽しかったです。私は農学を勉強していますが、このように実際に作業をしたことはありませんでした。そして除草が終わったらタニシを分配し、大学に戻りました。

In another day, we went to takasa field at 3pm. We do the weeding again between the rows of rice plants using other plastic tools. We must do this activity carefully to not made damage to paddy plants.

他の日には、午後3時に農場に行きました。この日は他のプラスチックの道具で除草を行いました。私たちはこの作業を稲を傷つけないように注意して行わなければなりません。

Shimura san took the pictures of us. As the picture showed, we do this activity seriously but enjoy and happily 😃↑ この写真は志村さんが撮ってくれました。写真のように、作業はとてもきつかったですが、楽しくできました。

After we do the activity, we discuss and have a nice conversation about farmer life. We think if in the future all people don't want to become a farmer because have to hard work, but the income was so low, so then all people will starving and dying. We also discuss the passiveness of people for keeping the environment. I also think about that. I must study hard and protect the plant also the environment as much as I can for my next generation. Hopefully!!

この作業の後、私たちは農家の生活について話をしました。私は思います、将来、低賃金・重労働のために農家になりたいという人がいなくなったら、我々は餓死してしまいます。私たちは他にも人々が環境保全に受け身であることについても話しました。それについても思うことがあります。私は一生懸命勉強して、次の世代のために植物環境を守らなければなりません。そうしたいです！

In the future, we will have a lot of weeding activity again because our field did not use herbicide. Maybe not only weeding activity but other activity also. We all will get busy and busy. So, in the remaining time I stay here (less than 1.5 months) I must prepare my self to work hard. SEMANGAT!!

私たちの水田は除草剤を使っていないので、これから何度もこの作業が増えるでしょう。おそらく、除草だけではないかもしれません。どんどん忙しくなるでしょう。だから残された時間(1.5ヶ月を切りました)一生懸命働くために準備しなければなりません。根性！！
