It’s already 10 months I live in Tsuruoka, meaning that sooner about 1 month left, I will leave this beloved laboratory, university, and country. I learned a lot during my life here, knowing a lot of different people, facing sometimes easy and sometimes hard circumstance, trying new things even I’m not good at it, and struggling to reach what is good for me and for others.
Sometimes, when I talked with Dian san and realized that we will no longer stay here, it makes us sad, but however, our program will be finish soon and we have to go back facing the reality in Indonesia. Then, we wondered, what can we give to our laboratory as a memory?
About 1 month ago, we started to search what is the good things which is useful and can remind us to our laboratory. Also, we want to give a typical thing that can represent about Indonesia. That’s why we were searching it In Indonesia.
After having some considerations, finally we made a decision and fortunately, there was a PhD student coming back from his day off in Indonesia, so we asked a help from him to bring the things here. That was one of situation that makes us relieved hehehe
Immediately after we received the package, we want to give it directly to laboratory member. It was Friday afternoon at that time and we prepared the things as a present to laboratory member. After we ask permission from Sato sensei, then we could held a small meeting at the afternoon. At the first, it was a secret because other laboratory member did not know what is the purpose for having the meeting.
After we gathered at seminar room, then suddenly we spoke and laboratory member knew we were the one that plan for having the meeting. We gave them a little thing one by one. At first, we were really afraid and worried if this present is unsatisfying, but in fact they were really surprised and did not expect that kind of things. That was a shirt which has paddy field design at both front and back side and at the left-bottom corner, there is a sentence “Animal Ecology Lab” which can glow in the dark. We chose that design because it represents our study about agriculture and tell us that rice is important because it is the staple food in Indonesia and Japan. The sentence “Animal Ecology Lab” also remind us where we belong to during our study.
Knowing that it was a shirt, all laboratory member suddenly tried to wear and finally it suits them. Then Sato sensei asked us to take a picture together in front of the university.
We were very happy at that time. Thank you very much Sato sensei for giving us the opportunity having the meeting. Hopefully that little things can be useful and become a good memory for us 😊
