Asahimura (Mountain Village)

Monday, 22 July 2019 animal ecology laboratory member goes to Asahimura before that we visit place that has the slogan "Challenge Nature". At this place we meet with Miura-san, we are all introducing each other. Sunayama -san talking with Sato Sensei then Sensei let us go around that building. There were so many interesting things and pictures in that building. We are all seeing many wild animal skins, the villagers used to hunt the wild animal at winter for keeping their life.

In these places, we found an old picture that compares the old japan and the modern one of the paddy field. In that picture of old japan tell us about randomly paddy field shapes, and the modern one telling us about land that in good shapes of a rectangle.

This building is a place of kids to learn about nature. They can even stay for a night to sleep, and camping too. We saw a burned area that usually used for fire in the middle of the camp night.

Miura-san is the one who cultures the snail. When he was younger, he always eats a snail. There's a lot of snails can be found when he was young, but time passed and farmers get a piece of knowledge about pesticide and applying it to their paddy land to increase productivity. After that snail gets killed and almost extinct. So, he thought if there is no cultured snail, the snail will be extinct.

We got more stories from Miura – san. These villagers used to be a hunter in the back days, they are hunting for food in the mountain. Before they leave the village they always said "bear" because If we say bear in the morning it will luck, and if they said “monkey” it will bad luck. And sometimes they got a fight with a bear at the mountain.

The places of cultured snail are in Miura – san back yard. There was just a little of the snail, and they are growing. It is because they will die when winter, so the land is empty and Miura – san will hunt snails again in the mountain.

And after that, we take a walk with Sensei. There's a bridge with a beautiful view of nature. We were relaxing and taking some photos and also a selfie picture. When we take a picture, Sensei do some move to poke Sandi LOL that was funny. I enjoy this day.
