Lady Birds Hunting

This week animal ecology member including me we have several activities. Insect hunting is the most favourite activity. In the afternoon we were looked lady bird to rear in the laboratory. This time is so hard to find lady bird because the temperature is going lower. Sensei said to us next month will be harder than this month because autumn will be start. Most of lady birds are hiding in the brushes and golden rod plant. Golden rod is very common in Japan and I think this is the best place for lady birds to live. Because in the golden rod there are some insects are living there such as lace bug, aphids and other species. When we were in the field, we collected several lady birds most of them were in adult phase but we still found larva and pupa phase too.

今週はラボのメンバーと一緒に色々な活動をしました。虫取りは中でも一番好きな活動でした。午後に圃場でラボで飼育するためのテントウムシを探したのですが気温が低くなりなかなか見つける事ができませんでした。来月からは秋になりより見つけるのが難しくなると先生は仰っていました。

多くのテントウムシはセイタカアワダチソウに隠れていました。セイタカアワダチソウは日本で普通にみられる種でグンバイムシやアブラムシなど多くの種の住処になっておりテントウムシにとって最高の場所だと考えられます。圃場で見つけたテントウムシのほとんどは成虫でしたが幼虫や蛹も見つけることができました。

We collected two different species of lady birds. we can see from the colour of them. After that, we try to keep them in the incubator with temperature 14,5oC and the light condition L:D 16:8 to make them inactive to prey. I hope we can keep them and rear them in the laboratory because it is my first time to rear lady birds. This week we will spending our time with lady birds hunting before it is hard to find.

二種のテントウムシを見つけました。それらは色で見分ける事ができます。捕食を活発にするため14.5℃照：暗＝16:8に設定したインキュベイターでの飼育を試みます。これが初めてのテントウムシの飼育なのでうまくいくといいです。テントウムシがいなくなる前に今週はテントウムシの捕獲に時間を使うつもりです。
