I stayed in China from 6th to 16th September. It is for visiting my relative or my ancestral tomb and research about Chinese snail. The town is Guangzhou, Guangdong province. There is closer than Okinawa and so hot that be able to see a lot of tropical plant like as Indonesia I heard. Same as Indonesian people, people who live in Guangzhou very like to eat spicy food, in addition, they also like to eat oily and high carb food. Although it was very delicious, you may think that it is not good for health. But China has 4000 years history how to spend daily life including food. They avoid drinking cold water and like to drink hot tea with meal. This culture called “yumcha”. They often drink too much hot tea like as Japanese people eat food with rice. China has 4 biggest cuisines. Guangdong cuisine is one of it. In this time, I want to invite you to a part of mysterious Guangdong cuisine.
Chinese traditional style to visit ancestral tomb
In this area, rice is made three times in once year. So they often eat many kind of rice. Not only eat directly or make it for porridge but also process into powder and steam to use it for dough such as steamed dumpling, steamed vermicelli roll, which called “chang fen” or rice noodle, which called “he fen”. This “fen” means contain several kinds of rice sometime potato powder and you ill feel chewy and jiggle taste. There is some other “fen”. You can search and enjoy “fen” world in Guangdong.
Guangzhou is said that the end point of Silk Road crossing the land load and sea load. You can find the stone road, which believed as the remnant of Silk Road. So, Guangdong also can be called accumulating area of culture. Cultures not only from Sichuan, Shanghai or Beijing, which are the other of 4 biggest cuisines but also from other countries were mixed in Guangdong.
Guangdong’s mystery is still hidden. I want to introduce in the next time.
