Mt.Apoi

先日、北海道アポイ岳でハイマツを刈る作業に参加してきました。

アポイ岳は北海道様似町に位置する標高810mの山です。

その特異な地質や自然環境から世界ジオパーク認定されています。

アポイ岳では標高500m程度で高木類が消え森林限界になる異様な光景を見る事ができます。

アポイ岳はプレートどうしの衝突により大地が盛り上がってできたかんらん岩体の地質です。

このような由来を持つ山は日本でもアポイ岳のみで世界的に見ても非常に珍しい地質を持っています。

かんらん岩体は植物が利用できる可給態窒素などの栄養がが非常に少ないという特徴があります。加えて道東海岸の

非常に冷涼で風が強い地域に位置している事から、アポイ岳は植物にとって非常に厳しい環境になっています。

このような要因から本来、標高1500m～2000mの厳しい環境のみで見られる高山植物がそのような低い標高に現れます。

これを偽高山帯といいます。

そしてアポイ岳にはそのような厳しい環境中でも生き残る事のできた固有の高山植物や生物が数多く生息しています。

アポイにはそのような固有の高山植物からなる美しいお花畑が存在しています。

またヒメチャマダラセセリというアポイにしか生息していない蝶がいます。この蝶もそのような高山植物が食草です。

しかしここ50年で、偽高山帯を保っていたエリアにハイマツが侵入してきて問題になっています。

本来ハイマツが存在しなかった岩れき地にハイマツが侵入したならば遷移が進み多くの固有高山植物は失われてしまいます。

当然、高山植物を食草とするヒメチャマダラセセリも絶滅してしまうでしょう。

ではなぜ突然ハイマツが侵入してきたのでしょうか。これには複雑な要因が関わっていると考えられています。気候変動や温暖化、また工業が発展したことにより窒素鉱物の空気中への排出量が増えそれが雨よって地上に降り注いだためという考えもあります。

ハイマツの侵入はかなり進んでおり50年前とは大きく環境が変わってしまっているのが現状です。

しかしこれを指をくわえてみているわけにはいかない、当時50年前の広大に広がる美しいお花畑を再生したいと立ち上がったのがアポイ岳ファンクラブの皆さんです。

わたしはそのような思いを受けこの活動に参加を決めました。

いつかまたお花畑が広がる美しい光景の再生のために少しでも力になれればと微力ながらお手伝いさせていただきました。

I joined work that cutting "dwarf stone pine" in Mt.Apoi Hokkaido. Mt.Apoi is 810m elevation and location Samani town Hokkaido. It certified "Global Geopark". Because it has peculiar geological features and environment. You can see an unusual scene in which a tall tree disappears and become a forest limit only around 500m elevation. Mt. Apoi is peridotite geology formed by the rise of the earth due to the collision of plates. The mountain with such origin is only Mt. Apoi in Japan and has very rare geology even in the world. Peridotite has the characteristic that usable by plants nitrogen and some nutrition are low. In addition, locating a very cold and windy area. It is so hard environment for plants. Therefore, the alpine plant appears such elevation. However, originally 1500m ~ 2000m in Japan.

This is called false alpine belt.

Mt.Apoi is a habitat for endemic plants and creature which can survive such a hard environment.

It has a beautiful alpine tundra composed of endemic species.

Also, it has the uncommon butterfly "Pyrgus malvae". Mt.Apoi is the only Inhabitat in Japan.

This butterfly feed alpine plants.

However, in the last 50 years, dwarf stone pine have invasion the area that had keep the false alpine belt.

If dwarf stone pine invades a rocky terrain that originally did not have it, process the ecological succession and many native alpine plants are lost.

Of course, "Pyrgus malvae" also can be lost.

But why dwarf stone pine invasion suddenly? This is thought to involve complex factors. Some believe that due to climate change, global warming, and industrial development, nitrogen mineral emissions have increased in the air and have been poured down by the rain.

Actually, The invasion has advanced heavily, and the current situation is that the environment has changed significantly from 50 years ago.

But members of the Mt.Apoi fan club stood up and taken action.

"How can we stand by and watch the losing environment? We want to regenerate the beautiful alpine tundra that spreads 50 years ago."

I decided to participate in this activity in response to such thoughts.
