Medaka, rice fish

メダカは田んぼ、その周辺の水路なんかにすんでいる、小さい魚で英語だとRICE FISH（コメの魚）というんです。今はめっきり見なくなりましたね。といっても、私が子供のころにはすでにメダカはいなかったなぁ。もっとも、ウグイやトミヨ（北海道ではトンギョと呼んでいた）、フナなど小魚は豊富にいたのだけど、ある時からパッタリ少なくなった。ま、そんなメダカですが、鶴岡は大山の下池まで見に行きました。するとどうでしょう、見慣れないメダカが。。。。エイっと網ですくうと簡単に取れました。明らかに野生種とは異なる見た目。誰かがこれ、放しちゃったんでしょうね。ま、持って帰るか、フハハハ、徳した。

Rice fish, Medaka in Japanese, were common fishes in rice paddy and srounding canals once upon a time. In the last week I went to Shimo-ike, a lake in Oyama area of Tsuruoka city, to see them. Shimo-ike is one of area where the Medaka still can be found. Medaka often forms a group with some number of individuals, and it has been called as school of Medaka from long ago. OK………..I got it, but what is it? It seemed very different from Kitano-medaka, wild strain in east Japan, in appearance. I saw some like it in pet shop. It is not a natural strain, but artificial breeding. Well, probably someone released it. OK, I like it, and bring back to home, hehehe.
